Heating Season Guidelines
Please note the following items to maximize efficiency during the heating season, officially starting October 1, 2021.
Remove/Cancel ACs + Close Windows by October 15, 2021.
- Residents must remove all air conditioner units (ACs) from windows, discontinue using, and deregister with the office by October 15, 2021. More AC details here.
- Charges will continue until you notify the office of removal and you will receive a $45 open window fee.
- To cancel, email CTC's office stating your address and the date you stopped using/removed the AC.
Apartment Heat
- Our community-wide heating system starts on October 1, 2021. Please allow a few days for the boilers to begin working at full capacity, and note that the heat in your unit will only activate if the thermostat reads the temperature in your unit to be less than 68 degrees F (20 degrees C) or the temperature it is adjusted to.
- Each unit type has a maintenance video to reference for specific details on your apartment's heat. Contact the office if you have concerns about your apartment's temperature or how to properly use your thermostats.
- Normal temperature of your apartment should range between 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit (20-22.2 degrees Celsius). Adjust your thermostat accordingly if it is too hot or too cold. If your apartment's temperature seems to be out of range, place a maintenance request for a technician to check on your apartment.
- Keep furniture, bedding, and drapery away from the radiation units as possible, and especially do not cover the radiator with any materials. You will get the most heat from a free-flowing radiator.
- Electric space heaters are not allowed in apartments at CTC due to the risk of fire. Heat is provided for you as part of your rental payment, and maintenance can troubleshoot any issues if you believe your heat is insufficient.
Close Windows + Doors
- All windows and storm doors should be closed, as well as the storm door insert(s).
- Except for short periods of time, all apartment windows must be kept closed with the sashes properly locked to prevent heat from escaping. Heating pipes can freeze and crack in cold weather if windows are left open. If windows are open due to negligence, residents are subject to a $45 open window fee are entirely responsible for the cost of repairs.
Monitor Humidity
- Be aware of the humidity levels of your apartment. If humidity exceed 45%, please take appropriate measures to lower the humidity:
- Immediately stop any use of humidifier
- Start the use of a dehumidifier.
- Reduce boiling of water
- Move Hygro thermometer to other locations of unit to check humidity.
- Every day, wipe down any excess moisture on window or window sill daily to prevent mold and/or damage.
Heat Issues and Extended Travel
Always contact the office (651-646-7526) immediately if you are experiencing problems with your heat. Additionally, please email the office if you plan to leave your apartment during the heating season for more than 5 days so we can take the proper precautions in your absence.
